Pro Tips for Purchasing Disco Lights
So you want to be a professional DJ, huh? Then you are probably aware of the fact that you will need much more than music playing and record scratching skills. You will need good equipment, that will see you through your learning process, while also keeping your audiences entertained throughout the partying or concert warm-up experience. Equipment does not just refer to DJ equipment. Certainly by this point you have purchased a good turntable and several other items that you are getting familiarized with. Equipment, however, also means good lighting. So what does a good set of disco lights have to include? How will you know which brands to buy? Can you actually buy too many lighting items? Find the answer to all those questions (and so much more) in our brief guide to purchasing discotheque or club lights below.
1. Less Is Often More
You don’t necessarily need lots of disco lights to set up a great show. Good lighting comes from a clever use of the equipment you have at your disposal. When you go out to buy lights, don’t always assume that the more lights you have, the more fun the people will have. Learn to think in patterns. If you’ve already created a basic pattern with your existing pieces, think of how a new addition will impact the symmetry of that scheme. Which brings us to our next point, namely…
2. Symmetry Is Key
Look around the party room and figure out where to start. It will all be much easier if the room is at least somewhat furbished in terms of disco lights. If you already have a certain type of light in one corner, then add one of the same type in the opposing corner. Look around you at the next indoor concert you attend. Most of the time, a light on one side of the stage or the room will be matched by a similar light coming in from the opposite side. Another good tip here is to always get assistance in setting up the lights. If you’re thinking of hiring rather than buying the lights, the rental company will most often help you rig up the lights, and will come to remove them once the event is over.
3. Use Computers in Your Favor
Recent technological developments have made it possible for DJs and light show designers to set up their disco lights days in advance to the event. There are several good quality pieces of software on the market that will do all the math for you, while you focus on mixing, playing and scratching. However, the success of such software relies on very precise information input on your part. You will need to know the exact dimensions of the room in which you’re holding the party, or in which the event will take place. Since the basic mechanism behind these solutions is that of a simulation, you will be able to test and try out all sorts of different set-ups before you actually get to perform in front of a crowd of people.
Resolving 3m HDMI Cable Frequency Loss
As a rule, the shorter the distance a video signal has to travel through an HDMI cable, the better picture and audio quality you will get. All cables generate electrical resistance which affects the overall signal quality. However, you won’t likely detect any difference in video quality whether you use a 2m or 3m hdmi cable, but if you will use a sensitive testing device to measure the signal output, there would be a very slight difference.
To address this issue, cable manufacturers came up with gold-plated connectors to ensure better connection and enhanced audio/video signal transfer. Gold plating the connectors minimizes electrical resistance, which means that there is little or no frequency loss, which is crucial for high-definition transmissions.
If you are considering using 3m cables with gold-plated connectors, then it can cost you more than using an HDMI cable with standard metal connector. If you are prepared to deal with the increase in price, then you might as well invest in a high-quality gold-plated connector because superior quality gold plating produces less resistance.
If you want excellent video quality, choosing a 3m cable with superior quality gold-plated connectors will more likely deliver the same video quality as a 2m HDMI cable that comes with cheaper gold-plated connectors.
From Bob Marley To Michael Jackson
When most think of reggae music Bob Marley is the first thing that comes to mind. It is true that he is one of the most prominent artists in the world of reggae music, but there are many other artists that are still keeping the torch lit.The Marley family is still producing reggae sounds, but there are many other artists that are coming into the spotlight. Reggae sounds have even penetrated mainstream R&B sounds. Pop artists like The Police even used Reggae music early in their career to give their tunes a unique sound. It should come as no surprise that the popularity of this form of music is still growing. A large part of the reggae cultural growth is now tired to hip-hop music industry. Many DJs that make mix tapes do blends that incorporate both popular reggae beats with popular R&B songs. This is a large part of the underground hip-hop culture that is reaching so many youths. Reggae music was once considered a gritty art form that was reserved for the urban community. The irony is that the reggae culture is reaching outside of the urban community. Popular artists like Colbie Calliat are obviously influenced by reggae music. Bruno Mars and Rihanna are also showing the love for reggae on some of their current tunes.Reggae music is a mellow fusion of Afro-centric jazz, funk, and rhythm and blues sounds. The Jamaican culture is infused in this music that inspires sensual body movement. Dub beats are thick and infectious for the people that swarm to the dance floor for reggae tracks. The music can be fun at times. It can be sensual at others. It’s a great melting pot of melodies that all come together with the intention of making people feel something. Bob Marley was great at making people feel something. Fans refer to him as the reggae music originator, but this isn’t exactly true. Reggae music was around before Marley came into existence. It was the Bob Marley sound, however, that gave reggae music a worldwide stage. There isn’t a fan of reggae music anywhere that has not heard a Bob Marley song. He is to reggae what Michael Jackson is to pop music. Both are legends that left a lasting legacy that continues to grow. Marley became a legend because it his music covered so many areas. He could be playful and witty at the same time. He could also use his music to make a political statement. Marley could talk about love and the lost of love. The genius of Marley was his ability to make people dance in the midst of all of these different emotions.
Alternative Press Sucks and Musician Tuner’s Got Game
That’s right! Musician Tuner magazine is the new guy in town and it has swagga! Although MusicianTuner.com sports that “Beta” logo, the site has the hype of a real competitor. Alternative Press holds sway over the independent music industry which is why (and how) a strong contender could become a game changer for the ‘American Music Magazine’.
That being said: By the looks of this new independently ran startup with the slogan “The Musician’s Music News”, a valid attempt at the independent music market is in order. According to sources, Musician Tuner Magazine is a team of two new to industry web developers who are dedicate to bringing this project to its potential. As far as readers have seen, the content of Alt Press is becoming watered down with marketing and featuring less and less respectable music. March’s cover featured My Chemical Romance and Bayside. No doubt its readers are slowly becoming more and more female 13-18 than male 13-35. That’s cool for Cosmo but not for independent music.
Musician Tuner looks like a true underdog story but in this day and age of web 3.0 underdogs are all that exist. That is why an independent music magazine beginning as an online ‘Musician’s Music News’ magazine may just have the right stuff to compete with the guys who are dying on the shelves at 711. All it takes is a trend and some elbow grease to get these types of things to pop off. A Facebook presence, some Twitter followers and charisma might just get an entrepreneurial project like this to flight. Digital Music Distribution Channels
Regardless if you are the front man of a high school band, playing loud music in a garage, or an established musician with millions of sold albums, you could still utilize the powers of the digital music distribution channels in order to have your music heard by millions of fans. While some of these channels are well known, but not accessible for the independent musicians, others are far more reachable and allow you to promote your work without having to pay exorbitant fees.
In the not so distant, but wilder days of the Internet, almost all music that was found online was being shared illegally with the help of the large P2P networks, which allowed people across the Globe to connect and swap files effortlessly. As a reaction to the legal actions taken by RIAA (the Recording Industry Association of America) against some of the large peer-to-peer systems, the legal music market emerged. Of course, the illegal music downloads continue to be a problem that cannot be ignored, but most of the online stores offer music in higher quality at very low prices, which encouraged great number of music lovers to purchase their favorite tracks and stay on the good side of the law.
Some of the large and known by many digital music distribution channels are iTunes, Amazon MP3, Napster, Rhapsody, and eMusic, and all of them store millions of songs and allow independent artists to list their own tracks and albums. However, these are not the only places, where artists could sell their music online and setting up a website, where fans could pay for downloading a single song or an entire album is quite easy and surprisingly affordable. Facebook, Twitter, and many others from the extremely popular Web 2.0 online communities are yet another place, where musicians could get in touch with their fans and promote their music. The online video sharing sites, which receive massive daily traffic and are often frequented by younger visitors also offer tremendous opportunity, and so do the thousands of online TV and radio stations, which are often more open to playing new music.
The Band Known As Tackhead
Tackhead is a band that seems to come and go as the whim of the particular artists involved. They were formed in the eighties and that decade seemed to be the most productive for them. They did go out on tour in 2004, but that seemed to be the most active they had been since the nineties. Although, it would appear that there will be a new album out for Christmas 2010. While, I would love to see these guys somewhere (anywhere) in concert, I’d settle for a new album. Considering there were only a couple of albums released under the Tackhead name, it’s nice to finally see a new one. Although the members of the band, including Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald, and Keith Leblanc have certainly been busy little fellows, when it comes to releasing material on their own and with other artists. It does seem as if they have a certain organic relationship with the music. They go wherever it is and with whoever they can produce the best music with. It’s something, that the mainstream music business could probably take notice of.
A River Of Imagination Soul and Dread
The best music always seems to come for the smallest places. Producers and artists toiling in anonymity to create inspiring sounds for their own artistic salvation. That’s kind of the genesis of On-U Sound records back in the early eighties. Adrian Sherwood working as both producer, engineer, and artists created some of the most influential and funk-a-tastic sounds ever to come from the British isle. While Sherwood is associated with another half dozen or so labels, On-U Sound is the one most associated with his work.
I’ve always been a fan of something a little different. Anything that can take me away from mainstream pop, rock and roll is a godsend in my mind. Adrian and the legion of artists and producers that worked at his shoulder created just the kind of sounds I enjoy. I can listen to that funky, unpredictable, syncopated rhythm and it just makes my day all that much better. I’m actually listening to some right now, and it’s got me groovin’ and typing all at the same time. African Head Charge, and Little Annie are two of my favorite artists from this stable of remarkable talent. It’s Little Annie that I’m listening to now. Songs From The Coal Mine Canary is the album, and while the beats are pretty laid back it’s still awesome stuff.
